This here is the first Curtiss Knives folder that I have ever gotten to handle. It's amazing. With any custom piece, you expect excellence, but this knife here has something about it that makes it feel and function a bit better than most of its competition. I've always been a fan of frame lock flipper knives, but the Curtiss F3 is one of my new favorites, as the action is super smooth and the one-hand use is incredibly simple. Everything about this pocket knife screams top-tier.
This specific pre-owned model of the F3 that we have in stock at The Two Loons is an F3 Medium Wharny Flipper. This means that it operates on a SPOT pivot with IKBS bearings, which allows the flipper tab to smoothly and methodically deploy your 3.2" blade to an open position. The blade of course is in the beloved wharncliffe shape, this guy being made of high-grade CPM-MagnaCut stainless steel featuring a blasted finish.
What makes this knife truly unique is the handle. Fully titanium, this guy has been given a stonewashed Antique Green finish, which is super unique. It reminds me of the Bounty Hunter series by Microtech and gives off Fallout video game vibes.
My favorite part, though, is the root beer colored anodized hardware. This pairs extremely well with the rugged look of the handle. The right-handed tip-up pocket clip is also finished with the same green as the scales. Speaking of scales, these handles are given slide-mill machined grooves into either side for extra grip during use. Featuring jimping on the spine and a ring-finger notch, the F3 Med has all the characteristics of being either a great user knife or a display piece.
On to the condition of this knife. All in all, it appears to be in very close to brand-to-like-new condition. It can be hard to tell if something is a blemish or if it came from the factory when the entire knife is given a washed look at creation. All of the things I am about to mention could either be from post-consumer or from the factory washings.
To start, there is a small spot on the clip side of the blade, as you can see in the photos. Additionally, the clip may have a few small scratches, but those really do look factory. Being that this is the first Curtiss I've handled, I am not familiar with the action. That being said, the flipper tab opening is impressively smooth. When closing the knife up however, once the lock bar is depressed, the close-up action feels a tad bit grainy or possibly tight. There doesn't feel like there is anything wrong with the knife at all, but I just wanted to include this so there are no surprises once you receive the knife.
