Sam McDowell Rigger Blade "Watching the Whales" Scrimshaw Pre-Owned USED - Satin Surgical Steel Serrated Saw Blade - Marlin Spike w/ Sailor-made Rope & Unoriginal Nylon Sheath | Made in Seki-City, Japan
This fisherman's-friend Rigger Blade knife made by Sam McDowell is an absolutely incredible piece and one of my favorites to come through TTL. To start, it is not in great condition. The blade has several scratches and the bolsters are pretty beat up, especially the butt-side bolsters. The handle scales are still in great shape, while being the main characteristic of this knife that makes it stand out.
The handle scales on this Rigger Blade are made of scrimshaw, while depicting scenes of giant whales and an old sailboat. These two simple pieces tell an entire story within themselves. While there is no mention of Moby Dick, this knife certainly brings back nostalgic Melville vibes. The blade is a serrated saw edge wharncliffe-style blade made of surgical steel. The blade on this model knife does not lock open and acts as a slip joint, still having a tight mechanism.
This guy comes equipped with a locking marlin spike for all boating needs. Attached is what seems to be the original Sailor-made rope. It comes with a black nylon sheath that I assume is aftermarket. As mentioned before, everything but the handle scales are in sub-par condition.
